AI Finds Early Esophageal Cancer on Ordinary Non-Contrast CT Scans in Large International Study

A large multicentre study published in Nature Medicine found that an AI system could identify many esophageal cancers — including some early cancers — on non-contrast chest CT scans. The technology could potentially extract additional cancer-screening information from scans already being performed, but it does not replace endoscopy and has not yet been shown to reduce cancer deaths.

New Blood Test Detects Many Early Pancreatic Cancers — But It Is Not Ready for Routine Screening

An international prospective study involving 1,785 people found that a blood-based test combining a microRNA signature with the established marker CA19-9 detected about 87% of stage I–II pancreatic cancers. The result is promising for earlier detection, but PANXEON is not yet an established screening test and needs larger prospective studies before routine clinical use.
